beyond and ui and the Starbour Office Westward, Fortherly direction as far Yaumati. It appears however it was not possible at the time to complete the survey, of which the utility is thereby much diminished.

It is very desirable from Nautical, Military and Engineering considerations, that the survey should be extended so as to embrace the Sulphur Channel, and Green Island to the Westward, and Stone Cutters' Island to the Northward. It is all the more desirable that this work should be carried out in that a new land survey of Hong Kong has been sanctioned by Government. With the completion of the Trigonometrical and the Nautical surveys, we shall be in possession of accurate and complete plans of all the lands and waters of the Colony.

I would therefore respectfully suggest that the attention of the Colonial Office may be invited to this important matter, with a view of addressing a communication to the Lords of the Admiralty requesting that the survey of the Harbour may be completed as soon as the services of a surveying vessel can be made available for the purpose.

2. I may add that from conversation I have had with Captain Collinson, R.N., Harbour Master, I understand that he considers the completion of the survey of the Harbour as very desirable.

I have, etc.,
S. Brown,
Surveyor General
